Bereavement Payment
 

The Bereavement payment is a tax free lump sum one off payment of £2,000 which could be payable to your spouse or civil partner in the event of your death.

 

The surviving spouse or civil partner needs to make an application for this benefit.  It is not automatically paid and they must also meet the requirements to qualify for this payment.

 

The qualification is based upon NI contributions.
